So I spent a lot of my birthday money on books. probably should not have as I now have an over loaded ‘To Read’ Shelf. Oh well.

I wanted to get a book on the sea as it is connected to a story I am writing. None of the books I could find was right. But then I found this one by the prolific writer Terry Breverton. He has also done one about pirates and pirate slang but it is no longer in print ‘Sad Face’.

Breverton’s Phantasmagoria.

Terry Breverton also wrote an almanac about fantastical creäture and myths. My wife has been reading this and She has been reading out loud choice pieces. As an aside these books are fantastically made.

I wanted to find out more about psychology for my character but most of the books I could find were either filled with impenetrable jargon or to vague. This one was written for writer and has good reviews.

The Elements Encyclopedia of Secret Societies by John Michael Greer.

I saw this in Waterstones and was intrigued. I read a couple of pages and went straight to ‘Take My Money’ mode.

As some body who lives in a (mostly) gun free country and the closest I have come to a gun is my collection of Nerf Guns I wanted to learn more about them. This a very highly rated book for writers.

The Elements Encyclopedia of Magical Creatures.

I have tried to find a good encyclopedia on mythical creäture and I found this when looking for reviews of the encyclopedia of Secret Societies. It is no longer in print so I got from a second-hand book store via Amazon for £7. The only downside it the a strong smell of stale cigarette/open fire smoke. It will go in time but keeps surprising me when open the book to browse. They also have other on Dreams, Spells and Witchcraft.
